What library in the Northwest would be complete without its own café? The
City of Eugene held a design competition for a vendor for the new
library’s cafe. Once selected, together with the Owners, the City of
Eugene and the Library’s Design Team, we worked to create a small oasis
for the reading public. The primary design goal was to create a welcoming
façade to attract customers as they enter the library. We borrowed the
“curve” from the overall library design to highlight “a little jewel in
the entry garden”. The café design was required to maintain the same
standards as the library in its selection of materials, millwork details
and attention to light levels.
