Owner: PROJECT GOALS
Provide transitional housing for developmental disabled adults to promote their independence.
Create much needed affordable housing in a rural community.
Diversify the community neighborhood by the integration of migrant farm workers, local farm workers and developmentally disabled adults.
Diversify the type and number of unit types to reflect the user's needs and lifestyles. The unit types range from studio, two bedroom, and tree bedroom duplexes, a four bedroom unit, a group home and a community building.
Pay reverence to the structures on the National Historic Register next door. The museum and barns were part of the founding father's homestead established in 1868.
Respond to the regional and climatic particulars of place. Deep Porch overhangs, eaves, rakes, building materials and steep roofs all respond to the agrarian nature of the built environment and the climate.
Preserve the natural resources. Sensitive placement of manmade elements to preserve the riverbed, 100 year old maple trees, meadows and a small orchard.
Adaptive re-use of existing building into a community building to save construction costs and preserve natural resources.
